Greater Dog's attacks come in two different types. You'll need to act in this order, Beckon, Pet, Play, Pet, Pet, before you can spare Greater Dog. You'll need to hit Snowdog two or three times to end the fight. Once you get close enough to this snow puff, Greater Dog will show itself.
